As Tofu said Norton is an overbloated piece of junk. Once installed on your system it then protects itself by measures that are not conducive to your computer. For instance, once the program has expired you will spend days or even months trying to rid yourself of all it's smaller programs that will continue to load up and do a call back to Norton everytime you turn on your computer. Nero is notorious for this as well.

I would use AVG7.5, Pandasoft, Avast, Housecall or many other more worthy virus detection systems before I'd ever even consider Norton.

And apparently Norton can and has been hacked quite a lot also recently. Once breached, it's defenses are completely useless against hackers.

Read up on it before you download it, you might find some interesting reading ;).

Go to tools and pick widows update
http://shop.symantecstore.com/store/symn...
Dont touch anything with a yellow box either, Norton is bloated and worst, doesnt detect as well even compare to some free versions.

Try http://www.avast.com or http://www.grisoft.com

They both offer free home user versions, Avast is more powerful and better at detecting virus.
