Does Ubuntu require firewall, anti virus, and spyware removal software?

Only Windows suffers from spyware it's a unique Microsoft



Windows problem no Unix distro does HP/UX Free BSD OpenBSD NetBSD Mac OSX and neither by the way neither does BEOS or Plan 9 operating system.



Does Ubuntu require a firewall? Yes and it's got one.



Antivirus software? on Linux? no.

If you wish, you can install a firewall and and anti virus program.

Ubuntu's desktop install provides a bunch of useful software for desktop users, but it doesn't install a firewall by default.



The only reason you need Antivirus for is probably Windows. There was a proof of concept virus created for Linux a while ago:

Ubuntu has a firewall by default. It's called iptable, but it's a command line program. If you want to configure it, you may want to get Firestarter.



There's no need for spyware removal or antivirus as they don't exist (yet). They will still need to know your password before they can install or run anything. So as long as you stick to the repository (anything you get using add/remove, synaptic, apt-get, etc.), you'll be fine.
