My brother-in-law has all kinds of Mac computers and he said he just checks for software updates, but never mentioned any Norton/McAfee type programs he uses. What kind of precautions should someone with an Apple/Mac take when using it on the web. This is all using the Mac browser programs and NOT the new kinds of computers that can use the windows software. Is 'software update' enough to keep the computer safe? or are there programs that are needed to keep an Apple uncorrupted?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
What anti virus/spy-ware type software should you get if you have a Mac?norton 360
Your brother-in-law is right - software updates is fine. You don't need any special anti-virus software when you're running Mac OS X, and you've got a firewall built-in. You don't need anti-virus on Linux either. Currently its only Microsoft Windows users that get plagued with spyware, trojans, adware and all that. You also don't need to "defrag" and you don't have a registry to go wrong.
I use a script to download and install the software updates, so I never have to click the button.
Whilst you can get anti-virus software, it is used to help clear Windows viruses.
I did see a Mac trojan once, but that was for OS 9.
