it is probably just a setting. from a blank spot on your desktop, right click and select properties, select the setting tab on the colors section pick True Colors and on the screen area select more. I set mine to max but you may like is somewhere in the middle.

There are loads of them. Try doing a search on google for free virus scanners. You will get online scanner and also AV software to install on your PC. Use the online scanners initially to clean up your PC. If the first one doesn't clean the PC then use another. There are loads and they are all free!!

Then pick a AV software (like AVG or AntiVir , etc) and install it on your PC and update the virus definitions. These are free as well!!

If your computer is barely working, it will be a bit tough and you will need to be quite patient to get it cleaned up. The reason is that when lots of viruses are running, they slow down the computers a lot so visiting web sites for antivirus software and downloads will definitely take a while to load. Please be patient.

A good place to start would be to try to run and clean up the viruses online without having to download a lot of software and running installations plus reboots...

There is a company called Panda Software that has been rated very good by PC Mag and PC World. See the sources for the link.

If you are able to clean up a lot of viruses, make sure you keep running the online scanning tool by rebooting after every clean up and running the scan again until your computer is found to be clean of viruses.

Once you do that, it would be a great time to also clean up any possible spyware and adware that might be running on your machine. So make sure you download a really good AND FREE adware tool called Ad-Aware SE by a company called Lavasoft. See the sources for the link. The tool is free and all you have to do is to keep updating the definitions. As with the antivirus tool, make sure you reboot after every clean up and run the tool again until the tool doesn't find any more spyware or adware.

If you can boot from your original installation disk or your backup partition ( some computers like newer HPs with a single disk) then either choose repair or if you're experienced enough you can edit the registry to remove one or the other. If you can get in at all you can run msconfig (start, run, msconfig)and use a selective start to exclude AV from starting then uninstall one of both products and start over.

AVGFree at www.grisoft.com is the one I use, and I prefer it to anything N***on puts out.
I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from http://www.download.com/ I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

Bitdefender have a free version, but you know at 拢20 a year I have to say buy it, it's way safer. you can find total free copy of node 32 unlimited but u need to know the installing procedure which is bit difficult. following is link and procedure.

After installing nod32 without restarting the OS and applying the crack, go to the nod32 system folder located inside program files where u should find a registry key named nod32fix, u should double click it and apply the key. After that restart the system. be sure to unplug the internet when first booting up the pc to apply the following step. After first turning on the pc, go to nod32 control center and open the Amon tab then click setup. go to exclusions and press add and then folder. search for eset's folder in program files directory and select it. there u have it, press ok and then ok to exit.

u have just made nod32 neglect the crack inside its folder. if u want to scan the pc later after updating it and the program happens to find the registry key and detects it as a trojan, u just have to go to quarantine and restore the object "it is the registry file from eset's folder.

The Norton A/V software is usually only a three months free version after which you have to pay a renewal fee. Personally I would recommend that you remove Norton with add/remove programmes and then get a free version. I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spy ware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. Download a program called CCleaner(it's free and it's brilliant! They ask anyone who can, to make a donation, but you can download it completely free). You can then remove Norton through your contol panel %26gt;add or remove programs. Click on Norton and clik on remove. After you have done this, do a registry clean with the above program and you should be all set to install your new program.

If this doesn't work you might have to get someone to clean your registry by hand as it seems that Norton leaves traces behind that make the new program difficult to install. However I have done exactly what I told you and it's worked.

Well acording to McAfees SiteAdvisor this website is a "spammy" website. One user on SiteAdvisor complained that he got 1000 emails from this website.

The way i see it you have either spyware or a virus. The best way to remove it is to go to www.download.com and download SUPERAntiSpyware or SpyBot Search %26 Destroy, do a complete scan remove it and quarantine it.

Did your volume of spam suddenly jump, or did your spam blocker just stop working? Could there be a virus that disabled your spam blocker?

Is the spam blocker on your machine or on your ISP (mail host)? Once my ISP changed the way their spam blocker worked, so all my filters that used to catch the spam had to be adjusted to the new format.

In the future to minimize this problem, I suggest getting a new email address for your friends and important email. fastmail and nerdshack are two good free ones where you can get pop access. You can also use one of the free temporary email hosts like spamgourmet to create temporary addresses for sending to companies or on lists.

It hasn't been around as long as Mozilla/Firefox which I also use occassionally, but I like it more. You should never need to turn off your AV software just to connect to a wireless network. If you have Windows then you need to get to your network connections window. To get there click on the start menu, then click on run. Once it opens type "ncpa.cpl" (without quotes). Then the network connections window should open. In that window you should have an icon for your wireless device, it will tell you if it is turned on (sometimes you have to turn it on, it won't turn on when you start your computer) Otherwise, you can right click on it and choose connect, and if there is a wirless network in the area, like say your home, then it will connect to it.

If it doesn't connect to a network, then you are going to have to find a wireless network. You are going to want to right click on the wireless icon again, and this time choose "view avalible wireless networks". This will bring up a list of all the wireless networks. You will want to choose your home network, or find the name of the network that you are trying to connect to and then hit connect. This should automatically connect you to the network.

you can't go wrong with either norton or mcaffee. I prefer norton, but that is just because I got used to it as a brand name in the mid 80's.

Wow. That is a suprise to me. The only thing I would suggest you do is reinstall Mac OS with the restore DVDs that came with your MacBook. After you are done with that, try getting a program called ClamXav.
Stay away from Norton if your running Mac OS X. It'll do more harm than good. Use ClamXav, it's free and made for a Mac.

I'm curious, how do you know your Mac is infected?
I have the same question as Elbert. What is it that leads you to suspect that you have a virus? The Mac OS is designed so that any application that needs to be installed for the first time will have to have permission to do so, i.e. authentication.

Before deciding on installing an anti-virus program, run some diagnostic software on your Mac first. Run Disk Utility or Cocktail. For a more thorough check, get a copy of Disk Warrior (stay away from Norton) or some other disk repair program.

9 times out of 10 I have found that a Mac just needs to have a little maintenance done to it to bring it back to 99%.
Norton's was origonally created with Mac in mind, as McAfee was designed with Windows in mind.

You can't go wrong with Norton's in this case.

I have been using the free Norton AV software that comes with BT internet.

Since updating it has gone from being slow to really slow and I need a new solution. It currently takes up to 5 minutes to be useable from boot up and around 30 seconds to open my web pages!!!

I believe AVG AV is good so I will probably use that for anti virus protection. I now need a good free firewall.

I would use Zone alarm but I believe the new one only works well with Vista, from what I have read on Download.com.

Is the windows XP firewall adequate to deal with most threats? I use Torrent software so I need to be relatively secure.

Norton is the most dependable. I've used a lot of others but they just dont have the same security and things GET BY.......norotn catched 99% of whats out there.

Good Call. Prevention is better then cure :). AVG is the best free antivirus. However for Spywares, I dont know yet. I have tried a couple, but not a lot of them have worked great for me. Checkout some reviews before you actually try the softwares. Trying / Installing sofwares and then removing them because they are not good, does more bad to your system files then anything else IMHO.
For antivirus try avg and a great one for spyware is spybot.

there are a few problems here,first you have far too many security programs running,the 2 anti-spyware programs you should use are spybot and adaware,uninstall the others they are not needed and are causing conflicts within your operating system

I am shopping around for Norton Internet Security Software for my laptop. RRP seems to be about 拢39.99. I have seen some websites selling this for less, some state 'retail boxed' at 拢34.99 and the same product with the letters OEM is priced at 拢18.99, what does the OEM mean, and what is the difference? Personally i would say don't bother with norton as it's not as good as it's supposed to be,and from using it myself in the past and others who have used it it slows your pc down.

i would recommend downloading antivira for free and using that,or theres always avg another recommended free one.

I use anti vira and since changing over from norton my pc has been working better and faster i would recommend using spyware terminator as well with this which is also free.Both prgrams together don't take up half as much space as norton either.

OEM means that the product is meant to be shipped with some one's equipment, e.g. bundled with say a Dell PC as 'free'. Usually, it is OK, but sometimes they don't have everything. E.g. an OEM DVD drive may not have all the software that the retail version includes. You have to buy by the method that is most convenient for you, and shop around.

But like previous answers, why not use AVIRA or some other free software. They are very good.
OEM - Original Equipment Manufacture (I think) but why not go for the free stuff instead of buying it - works just as well - to be honest I had Norton and took it off my PC coz it was crap - I now use AVG from www.grisoft.com free download and better than Norton -

Give NOD32 a try, its not free though. Though there is a 30-day trial available. Its the best one I've used, its detected some things that AVG Free Edition missed completely. Don't use Norton AV, its a bunch of bloatware.

nothing is ever the best alone, there are some commercial softwares that are "all arounders" which are bulky and have to pay for it. The reason why all arounders are not good is because they use too much resources than 4 programs doing their task together. When I used Norton or Mcafee, my computer lagged so severely that I went nuts. Then i started to try new programs that are free and surprisingly, those programs all together don't lag as much as one big program.

i use: Comodo firewall 3(with defense+ disabled), avg free(backup antivirus), avira antivira(main antivirus and is extremely powerful but make sure you configure the settings to everything high except the scan priority to low because of scanning lags), spybot search and destroy(spyware killer, but needs to be manually updated and immunized every week, which isnt a problem)

You need to run those programs in Safe Mode (tap F8 as the computer boots up and choose to boot to safe mode). It is possible a virus is preventing you from scanning your computer.

Ideally you should run a virus removal program in Safe Mode (without networking) and reboot and repeat the scan and reboot until there is a cycle where no virus is detected.

The idea behind the Safe Mode is that the operating system would only load your essential programs and drivers to the memory and hence there is a 鈥渉igh鈥?chance that the virus-infected file is on the drive but not loaded into memory. This would enable the AV to clean it easily and the next reboot/scan would detect nothing. There could still be a small possibility that one of the drivers or programs that are loaded by the OS in the Safe Mode is infected. That鈥檚 why you need to keep rebooting and rescanning to make sure you鈥檝e found them all.
