avast.com
free and very good - even consumer reports liked it (although they seem to snub free stuff)
I've had it for 2 years... love it!
Hi does any one know how and where I can get free anti virus software?virus protection software
AVG all the way!!
Excellent, and I can tell you a lot of companies use the free version, which tells you straight away that it is good!

According to personal experience, Norton Anti-virus makes the computer very slow, but you can try McFee. I am using it and the computer speed is good enough. Get it freely installed from your computer vendor.
www.grisoft.com - the AVG home edition is free. Can't run it on Windows 2003 server, though (can't run it on any server - it's home edition...)

Bitdefender have a free version, but you know at 拢20 a year I have to say buy it, it's way safer. Most free versions have parts disabled, AVG is pretty good, but applications such as Bitdefender include Anti Trojan and email checking as well. and lets face it if you have anything you value on your computer don't take the risk.
I agree with everyone one else that has recommended avast I've used it for over a year now and it's been flawless.
