Anti-Virus Softwares?

I currently have avg free installed in my computer. I think it removes 80 % or something of the virus. I have 2 questions

For anti-virus softwares, is it true that the higher the percentage of virus-removing the more memory usage it would take up.

And should i use a new Anti-Virus software? because I recently downloaded a spyware program. I scan the computer and there was 46 problems. Avg said 0 problems.

It's might cost you a bit in the trial and error process. But, what you get is the first hand experience of really using and trying those security softwares.
