Recommended free Anti Virus and Firewall software.?

I have been using the free Norton AV software that comes with BT internet.

Since updating it has gone from being slow to really slow and I need a new solution. It currently takes up to 5 minutes to be useable from boot up and around 30 seconds to open my web pages!!!

I believe AVG AV is good so I will probably use that for anti virus protection. I now need a good free firewall.

I would use Zone alarm but I believe the new one only works well with Vista, from what I have read on Download.com.

Is the windows XP firewall adequate to deal with most threats? I use Torrent software so I need to be relatively secure.

personally i wouldnt go free i would simply download avg professional then get crack for it. if u wanna know where u can get a crack from email me and ill let ya know

avg is definently the best antivirus out. stay far far far far far away from norton it is a virus in itself. Spybot search and destroy is the best spyware scanner/blocker/remover out. get both programs free from download.com

Avoid free *anything*. That's why you have problems.
i had norton anti virus and the firewall it made my computer slow and unable to get in sites and people contact me so when license ran out i got AVG free edition, zone alarm firewall had these for three years not a problem.
