I'm trying to decide which one I should download.

norton or symantec antivirus is best.
Norton. Download Norton, AVG , Avast which are free antivirus software. They do protect your computer and you can keep updating them once in three days or so. Ad-aware, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html
If you had to chose between the two, I would go with McAfree. I have Norton on one of my laptops and McAfree on the other. The Norton one tends to slow down that laptop even though it is a Core duo. In my opinion, Norton is very resource heavy. McAfee does better. Both are solid and good anti-virus/anti-spyware software and they are updated regularly to stay on top of current threats. Once you have used them, you might find Norton to be a little more thorough in reporting things whereas McAfee is a bit easier to navigate. McAFee offers "siteAdvisor" which helps you to stay away from websites that tend to send you spam if you give them any information. - they have you install a tool bar that shows green for a "good" site vs, yellow and then red for a "bad site" that send you large amounts of spam.

Don't rely solely on either software for your total protection, use Adaware and any good registry cleanup tool to keep your pc clean and fast.... good luck and I hope this helped.
I use AVG free edition very little resources better detectioon than norton's or mcaffee's
This combination is best in my opinion. It is secure less resource hungry meaning does not slows the PC.

Antivirus = NOD 32

Antispyware = Ad Aware Pro

It has two applications in it. Adaware for spyware scanning and Adwatch as firewall.
