Between Avast & AVG,which is a better anti-virus(free) software?

Can I use both these softwres?In case I use both of them, is there going to be any conflict between the two or is it going to slowdown my computer?Please advice.

i have never used avast but i have AVG, its an awesome program to scan your computer, i would stick with AVG.....

take both, if you have two it is more careful. also one may detect one thing, and the other may not. it is always better to have "two heads". it won't slow down your computer alot.
I like Avast, however i hate real time protection and the processes that help destroy a PCs performance. I like to scan only when i need to.

Try F-Prot first. There is a free version. Its not a pretty interface ( dos window) but its fast, and powerful, and trustworthy. Constant updates, and no background processes. Run when needed.
