So that they would have a steady demand of their anti-virus softwares?

i know how much time and efforts does it take to make an update for antispyware/antivirus to make it erase new threats. so i don't believe antivirus companies are interested in what you say. that's a bit paranoid imho..

Not sure they write the viruses, but I did get an interesting message from Norton Antivirus the other day... My laptop had not connected to the internet in months and all of a sudden, I was told that "My computer was not protected against a rapidly growing threat"... How the hell did Norton know this considering I had not connected to the net?!

I do believe that some antivirus companies put these messages into the programs to scare you into buying more subscriptions and convince you that the software is doing something useful... I'm sure it does protect your system, but I personally see no messages as a good sign...
Good question, but I dont think so. There are so many good hackers and knowledgable computer users out there, I seriously doubt that only the computer virus software companies are the only ones making the viruses. The company might employ outside help to intentionally try to break into the software so that the company can find flaws in the progams, in order to fix them or send out patches.
yes yes yes yes yes....

lots of viruses are scams that tell you that it is a virus and you clik on the link they give you and it sends you to a page that is an offer to buy a product that will get rid of the virus.. all it does is tell that thing not to pop up anymore and you don't have any more virus protection. but then they have your information.. Ha Ha they say....

but if you research it.. the virus and the program are made by the same company.
If you've ever seen an article on Symantec (makers of Norton) you'd know that's not true.

Here's a good article on just how bad the problem is:
