avg or avast there completely free and they, like other programs, get updates. in my opinion there a lot better then half those programs out there, such as norton.
If you are a home user, go for AVG anti virus. It is a free version. You can buy full version also. But the basic free version is more than enough.
Trend Micro Pc-Cillin 2008... is excellent and has a spyware scan. You can also get the Pro version with extra features but need to buy every year like most antiviruses

use avast 4.7, if you get a virus it will sound a siren and then you decide if you want to delete it or not, I love it.
avg is the best truly free anti virus, nod32 kapersky, all offer a free 30 day trial.

and superantispyware is a great antispyware and for certain viruses, Trojans.
