To be honest, if your computer is used by only you, you dont go on any weird websites and have only use read only equiptment to transfer data between computers, is there really aneed in anti virus software?

anti virus, anti spyware and maybe firewall are needed in the case you described. because even if you avoid doing anything illegal, there are guys out there that can do something illegal with your computer and your data. it's not like only those that browse porn, get computer viruses.

Same logic. If your computer is not completely network isolated, then it'd just be smart to be safe, even if it's not absolutely necessary, it doesn't cost you anything.
