I have Norton Anti virus '06 and I still get viruss and and spyware...what is wrong??

I have to scan my computer almost everyday. I also have Spyware Doctor and that helps remove the spyware too. My computer is only 2 years old. Isn't Norton supose to block all that spyware? I though it was the best anti virus software.
